Ejaculation

:''This article is about male ejaculation. See female ejaculation for the phenomenon of emission of fluids from the genitals in females. See ejaculation (grammar) for the speech phenomenon.'' thumb|350px|Illustration of the human male anatomy. Note: although this depicts a flaccid penis, the penis would actually be erect during ejaculation. Ejaculation is the process of ejecting semen from the penis, and is usually accompanied by orgasm as a result of sexual stimulation. It may also occur spontaneously during sleep (called a nocturnal emission), due to stimulating of the prostate or, rarely, due to prostatic disease. Ejaculation is a reflex which usually cannot be stopped once it has started, without painful cramping. It has two phases: ''emission'' and ''ejaculation proper''. During emission, the two ducts known as vas deferens contract to propel sperm from the epididymis (where it was stored) up to the ampullas at the top end of the vas deferens. The beginning of emission is typically experienced as a "point of no return". The sperm then passes through the ejaculatory ducts and is mixed with fluids from the seminal vesicles, the prostate, and the bulbourethral glands to form the semen or ejaculate. During ejaculation proper, the semen is ejected through the urethra with rhythmical contractions. The force and amount of ejaculate vary widely from male to male. A normal ejaculation may contain anywhere from 2 to 15 milliliters (from half a teaspoon to a tablespoon), although 5 to 7 ml is typical. The amount of ejaculate is highly dependent on how recent the last previous ejaculation was within a range of the first two days. In other words, an ejaculation soon after a previous ejaculation will be very small, but will be much larger if ejaculation has not occurred for two days or longer. In some men, the more semen ejaculated the more pleasurable an orgasm they experience. Some men may be able to shoot their ejaculate a distance of several feet, while

I'm pretty damn open minded and all, but do you REALLY need to make that picture the first thing you see? How about putting it as an external link. It could quite easily put someone off from reading the rest of the article. On second thought, I don't think it even adds any value. Its not captioned or properly formatted. I think that someone tried to pull this off as vandalism, but that it hasn't been realized yet. I'll revert once someone reformats it, puts a caption, and verifies the copyright status. But for now, its gone. --Comrade009 Suggest including a picture may help this article. --Rebroad 16:07, 24 Nov 2004 (UTC) :I've added an anatomical diagram. If anyone wants to use the source image to make a new diagram with an erect penis (as is anatomically appropriate for this article), please feel free to do so. -- The Anome 16:23, Nov 24, 2004 (UTC) ---- A http://en.wikipedia.org/w/wiki.phtml?title=Ejaculation&diff=8485113&oldid=8433080 recent edit of mine was reverted without explanation. The edit explained the involvement of the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems in ejaculation and erection, and removed some repetitions and an unrelated external link. In the absense of good reasons not to do so, I will restore those edits in two days. AxelBoldt 05:10, 17 Dec 2004 (UTC) I had notified user:Doug22123 on his talk page and http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:AxelBoldt&diff=8622274&oldid=8552648 he replied, saying that he'd prefer to keep the link to anorgasmia. So I kept that link, restored the rest, and he now reverted everything again, without additional discussion. I am reverting, awaiting discussion. AxelBoldt 23:49, 9 Jan 2005 (UTC)

Pre-Ejaculate

Pre-ejaculate (also known as pre-ejaculatory fluid or Cowper's fluid) is the clear lubricating fluid that is issued from a man's penis when he is aroused. Slang terms for pre-ejaculate include ''pre-come,'' ''pre-cum'', ''dog water'', and ''speed drop''. The fluid is usually secreted by Cowper's glands during foreplay or at an early stage during sex, some time before the man reaches orgasm and semen is ejaculated. Pre-ejaculatory fluid prepares the urethra for the passage of semen and neutralizes the pH of any residual urine. It also lubricates the movement of the foreskin over the glans. The amount of fluid that the human male can issue varies widely between individuals, from imperceptible amounts to a copious flow. A problem for couples who seek to avoid pregnancy, however, is that the pre-ejaculate may contain sperm. This is one additional reason why withdrawal (coitus interruptus) is not considered to be a reliable method of birth control. However, some research has been done which suggests that there are no live sperm. In fact studies have so far shown that pre-ejaculate contains only "small clumps" of non-motile sperm at rates well below the levels necessary for fertility.http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?cmd=Retrieve&db=pubmed&dopt=Abstract&list_uids=12286905 A more serious problem is those same studies have shown the presence of HIV, the virus responsable for the disease AIDS, in pre-ejaculate. Although the frequency of HIV transmission through oral-genital contact is fairly low http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?cmd=Retrieve&db=pubmed&dopt=Abstract&list_uids=11364482 a risk still exists. Female Ejaculation

Female ejaculation refers to the expulsion of noticeable amounts of fluid from the urethra by women during orgasm. The largest component of this fluid is said to be generated by Skene's glands. The fluid is said by some simply to be urine (due to stress incontinence), but others report a clear or milky fluid which emerges (sometimes with force) and has a composition similar to the fluid generated in males by the prostate gland.

The nature of female ejaculation

The glands surrounding the female urethra are variously known as the Peraurethral Glands, Periurethral Glands, Skene's glands, Female Prostate, or Urethral Sponge and are the spongy tissue associated with the Gräfenberg spot. Skene's Glands originally referred to only two of these glands which had openings visible at the mouth of the urethra and the others were designated Peraurethral Glands although the two terms are often used imprecisely to refer to all of the glands. In addition to fluid from the Peraurethral Glands and urine from the bladder, fluid could be expelled from the vagina due to a sudden reduction in size due to muscle contractions. In early fetal development, all fetuses are physically female and contain rudimentary organs that, under the influence of either testosterone or estrogen, continue on to become the male or female sexual organs, respectively. There are structures and organs in each gender which are analogous to each other. Males and females both have nipples which share similar roles in sexual arousal, though the female’s also perform a function in childrearing. The tissue in the clitoris is exactly the same as in the penis and becomes swollen with blood and erect during arousal eventually reaching orgasm. A prostate eqivalent exists in women as well. The prostate, though examined rectally, is a doughnut-shaped cluster of glands which encircle the base of the urethra, and produce most of the content in seminal fluid. In females, this is called the urethral sponge, and

Premature Ejaculation

Premature ejaculation, the most common sexual problem in men, is characterized by a lack of voluntary control over ejaculation. Masters and Johnson stated that a man suffers from premature ejaculation if he ejaculates before his partner achieves orgasm in more than fifty percent of his sexual encounters. Other sex researchers have defined premature ejaculation as occurring if the man ejaculates within two minutes of penetration; however, a survey by Alfred Kinsey in the 1950s demonstrated that three quarters of men ejaculated within two minutes of penetration in over half of their sexual encounters. Today, most sex therapists understand premature ejaculation as occurring when a lack of ejaculatory control interferes with sexual or emotional well-being in one or both partners. An estimated thirty percent of men suffer from premature ejaculation on a consistent basis.

Causes

Most men experience premature ejaculation at least once in their lives. Often adolescents and young men experience premature ejaculation during their first sexual encounters, but eventually learn ejaculatory control. Scientists have long suspected a genetic link to premature ejaculation. In one study, ninety-one percent of men who suffered from lifelong premature ejaculation also had a first-relative with lifelong premature ejaculation. Other researchers have noted that men who suffer from premature ejaculation have a faster neurological response in the pelvic muscles. Simple exercises commonly suggested by sex therapists can significantly improve ejaculatory control for men with premature ejaculation caused by neurological factors. Often, these men may benefit from anti-anxiety medication or selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, such as Zoloft or Paxil. Some men prefer using anesthetic creams; however, these creams may also deaden sensations in the female partner, and are not generally recommended by sex therapists. Psychological factors also commonly contribute to premature

Comment from copious ejaculator

I find this site of much interest as I am a female who ejaculates. The reactions from the men in my life have convinced me that what is a normal experience for me is not ordinary for most women. I would be interested in learning more about this. I can testify that it is not a myth and I've experienced several different types of ejaculation from a spurt of milky white fluid to a draining of fluid that soaks through layers of towels and literally wets the bed! -Comment from a different copious ejaculator- Yes, even if I bunch up a towel it totally soaks it and the bed. I ruined my friend's sofabed. (Fortunately it was an old, cheap one and he was getting rid of it anyway). You can buy special pads. They look like mini picnic rugs, so I assume they are waterproof. I wouldn't eat off them though! :-) I'll have to get something because I can't go around ruining mattresses. It looks so prissy though, cos no one will believe I ejaculate a couple of pints of fluid. And mine is nothing like urine! I want to know where it all comes from though. Where is it stored in the body before it's in the glands? Embarrassed Female

Dispute of references

JamesDay has added reference to a ficticious study. The study is written by a man who got his doctorate in education, NOT medicine. http://www.doctorg.com/gs_cv.htm The study is written by the Electronic Journal of Human Sexuality, which is not acknowledged by the American Medical Association. The study is false. Kingturtle 06:27, 3 Nov 2003 (UTC) :Is the study inaccurate, rather than simply appearing in a publication not acknowledged by the AMA? If you believe that it is inaccurate, please say which studies cause you to believe so or have reported that it is inaccurate. Seems unlikely, for it appears to correlate well with the standard views on the subject, though what it found may not be popular with some experiencing the phenomenon. Retrograde Ejaculation

In males, retrograde ejaculation occurs when the fluid to be ejaculated which would normally exit via the urethra is redirected towards the urinary bladder. This may cause a couple to experience problems such as infertility, as most sperm do not get to the vagina and the rest of the female reproductive system. As a method to induce pregnancy, the retrograde ejaculator's urine is centrifuged and the isolated sperm is then injected into the woman. In the past, in couples where the male has had retrograde ejaculation, the man has urinated into his wife's vagina in an attempt to conceive. Some fields of alternative medicine actually recommend and teach retrograde ejaculation as a way of "conserving the body's energy" or "conserving sperm". However, there is no scientific basis for this, as the retrograde-ejaculated sperm are simply urinated away at the next urination. Doctors do not recommend learning how to perform retrograde ejaculation, as once learnt, the habit may be hard to unlearn.
