Indemnity Plan

Indemnity Indemnity is generally a payment or compensation for damages done. For example, after wars, the losers have sometimes been required to pay indemnities. An insurance payout is often called an indemnity, or it can be insurance to avoid paying expenses in case of a lawsuit.
In pre-biblical times, most societies allowed for non-equal indeminity; a person who was only injured was often allowed to kill the person responsible in revenge. This was true of many near-eastern and middle-eastern societies. In some cultures, the standard has been like-for-like recompense, as in "an eye for an eye"
An innovation occurred with the development of the Hebrew Bible ("Old Testament"), which put limits on indemnities; in the Biblical view, a maximum limit was applied with the phrase "an eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth." In later centuries this was anachronistically read by non-Jews as a ''promotion'' of equal physical indeminity, while many Jews and Bible scholars hold that in its original context its function was to ''limit'' such actions.
Indemnity in the Unification Church
In the Unification Church, indemnity is a theological term involved in the absolution of sin. Usually, a sinner may pay 'lesser indemnity' by performing an act of contrition. A secular counterpart to lesser indemnity would be if a child broke a neighbor's window, and the neighbor accepted the child's apology as settling the matter.
On a few exceptional occasions, God required 'greater indemnity', as when he required the [Israelite|Israelites to wander 40 years in the desert after 10 of the 12 spies sent to Canaan reported faithlessly, "a year for every day". "After the number of the days in which ye searched the land, even forty days, each day for a year, shall ye bear your iniquities, even forty years, and ye shall know my breach of promise." Numbers 13:34

Indemnity
Jewish Holocaust
:the Jewish Holocaust was caused by indemnity for their responsibility for the death of Jesus.
I'm not sure the above sentence is precisely correct. ''Caused by'' makes it sound like Hitler had nothing to do with it. And the whole statement insinuates that the Holocaust wasn't a bad thing.
According to the Unification Church, God sent an emissary (the late Dr. Sang Hun Lee) to speak with Hitler in the spirit world. But he couldn't reach him, because his situation in hell was so wretched as to be inaccessible to Dr. Lee.
I need to think long and hard about how to explain the UC doctrine of indemnity. --Uncle Ed 18:02 Mar 24, 2003 (UTC)
:The next sentence mentions Hitler. Moon's statement below certainly seems to imply that the Holocaust, if not okay, was the Jews' fault. Is there another reasonable interpretation?
::Jewish people, you have to repent. Jesus was the King of Israel. Through the principle of indemnity Hitler killed 6 million Jews. That is why. God could not prevent Satan from doing that because Israel killed the True Parents. Even now, you have to determine that you will repent and follow and become one with Christianity through Rev. Moon.
--The Cunctator
Perhaps it would be better to say:
Jews interpret this and other similar passages as meaning that the Holocaust was the Jews' fault
Unificationists hold to a different interpretation, i.e., that the Holocaust was the fault of Hitler and of Christians who did nothing and let it happen
I will probably have to contact Andrew Wilson, professor of Old Testament Studies at UTS for a definitive answer. For now, I will just say that it all hinges on the meaning of terms such as ''fault'', ''blame'', ''responsibility'' and of course the UC's special term ''indemnity''.
Of course, if you'd like to help me puzzle it out before I contact the professor, you might study Rev. Moon's "Statement on Jews and Israel", available on-line http://www.tparents.org/Moon-Talks/sunmyungmoon76/SM761200.htm
Double Indemnity
''Double Indemnity'' is a 1944 film noir It stars Fred MacMurray, Barbara Stanwyck and Edward G. Robinson. The movie was adapted by Billy Wilder and Raymond Chandler from the novel ''Double Indemnity'' in ''Three of a Kind'' by James M. Cain that first appeared in 1935 in abridged, 8-part serial form in ''Liberty'' Magazine. It was directed by Wilder. The story was based on a 1927 crime perpetrated by a married Queens woman and her lover. The murderers were quickly idenified and arrested. 1
Plot
The film tells the story of an insurance investigator (MacMurray) who finds himself entwined in a plot to kill a woman's husband. A tenacious investigator (Robinson) thinks it's foul play and may suspect his co-worker and the recently widowed ''femme fatale''. The title of the film is a reference to a frequently-found provision in many life insurance policies in which an amount twice the amount which would normally be paid to the beneficiary becomes payable in the event of the accidental death of the insured. An alternate ending was shot for the film (to appease censors) featuring killer MacMurray going to the electric chair. This footage is lost but stills of the scene still exist.

Indemnity And Oblivion Act The Indemnity and Oblivion Act passage through the Convention Parliament was secured by Lord Clarendon, the first minister of King Charles II and it became law on 29 August 1660 during the first year of the English Restoration. It fulfilled the guarantee given in the Declaration of Breda that reprisals against the establishment which had developed during the English Interregnum would be restricted to those who had officiated in the regicide of King Charles I. It followed the Act of Pardon, which pardoned people for any acts of treason committed in the civil war.
The lands of the Crown and the established Church were automatically restored, but lands of Royalists and other dissenters confiscated and sold during the Civil War and interregnum were left for private negotiation or litigation.
