Lisbon (in Portuguese, Lisboa) is the capital and largest city of Portugal. It is the seat of the district of Lisbon.
Geography and Location
Lisbon is situated at 38°43' north, 9°8' west (38.71667, 9.1333), making it the westernmost capital in Europe. It is located in the west of the country, on the Atlantic coast at the point where the river Tagus (Portuguese Tejo) flows into the Atlantic Ocean. The city occupies an area of 84.6 km2. The city comprises 53 ''freguesias''. It is important to say that, unlike most major cities, the city boundaries are narrowly defined around the historical city perimeter. This gave rise to the existence of several administratively defined cities around Lisbon, such as Loures, Amadora and Oeiras, which in fact are part of the metropolitan perimeter of Lisbon.
The historic centre of Lisbon is built on seven hills, making some of the city's streets too steep for motor vehicles; the city is served by three funicular services and one elevator. The western side of the city is mainly occupied by the Monsanto Natural Park, one of the largest urban parks in the world.
Climate
Lisbon is one of the warmest European capitals. Spring and Summer months are usually sunny and the temperatures very high during July and August, with highs usually above 30°C only rarely reaching 40°C. Autumn and Winter are typically rainy and windy, yet sunny days are not rare either, the temperatures rarely fall below 5°C, usually staying at an average of 10°C. Lisbon's climate is classified as Atlantic-Mediterranean.
Demographics
The population of the city is 564,657, and the metropolitan area (Greater Lisbon) is 2,665.000. Lisbon is located in the wider region known as Lisboa e Vale do Tejo, with a population of 3,500.000, constituting about a third of the population of Portugal. The population density of the city itself is 6,606.9 inhabitants per km2.

There might be a few more things to be "squeezed" out of the Dutch-language article. My Dutch is not great, so I might have missed something. (Use the article with care, though, there appear to be a few errors there, although it was clearer than the Portuguese on the reconquista.) I chose to leave out some information in that article that seemed to me to be general history of Portugal rather than of Lisbon. I also chose to omit the mention of Bosch and Dürer works in the National Museum. I supposed having Bosches is notable & could be added (preferably with some specifics as to what works), but what major European national museum lacks Dürers? -- Jmabel 07:15, 27 Jan 2004 (UTC)

The following was added by an anon to the description of the Vasco da Gama Bridge. I found it incomprehinsible (and probably only marginally encyclopedic), so I cut it. "In 98 a know Detergent brand organized the biggest lunch table on the main plataform of the bridge with 20 km, beeing listed as one of the biggest in world at Guiness Book of Records." Lisbon is a town located in New London County, Connecticut. As of the 2000 census, the town had a total population of 4,069.
Geography
According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 43.1 km² (16.6 mi²). 42.1 km² (16.3 mi²) of it is land and 1.0 km² (0.4 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 2.29% water.
Demographics
As of the census2 of 2000, there are 4,069 people, 1,525 households, and 1,181 families residing in the town. The population density is 96.6/km² (250.3/mi²). There are 1,563 housing units at an average density of 37.1/km² (96.1/mi²). The racial makeup of the town is 96.71% White, 0.32% African American, 0.42% Native American, 0.47% Asian, 0.00% Pacific Islander, 0.37% from other races, and 1.72% from two or more races. 0.57% of the population are Hispanic or Latino of any race.

Geography
Lisbon is located at 28°53'7" North, 81°47'14" West (28.885413, -81.787225).
According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of 5.1 km² (2.0 mi²). 4.9 km² (1.9 mi²) of it is land and 0.3 km² (0.1 mi²) of it is water. The total area is 5.05% water.

As of the census of 2000, there are 273 people, 107 households, and 81 families residing in the CDP. The population density is 56.1/km² (144.9/mi²). There are 147 housing units at an average density of 30.2/km² (78.0/mi²).
