Shiva (Sanskrit: शिव, and written Śiva in IAST transliteration) is a form of God in Hinduism. Adi Sankara interprets the name Siva to mean "''One who purifies everyone by the utterance of His name''" or ''the Pure One'', that is, one who is not affected by the three gunas (characteristics) of Prakrti (matter): Sattva, Rajas, and Tamas. Additionally, Siva can also mean, "the Auspicious One."
Shiva is the third form of God as the Destroyer, one of the trimurti (popularly called the "Hindu trinity"). In the trimurti, Shiva is the destroyer, while Brahma and Vishnu are creator and preserver, respectively. However, even though He represents destruction, He is viewed as a positive force (The Destroyer of Evil), since creation follows destruction. Worshippers of Shiva are called Shaivaites. For Shaivaites, however, Shiva is the only Ultimate Reality (see Ishta-Deva for fuller discussion).
Shiva is not limited to the personal characteristics as He is given in many images and can transcend all attributes. Hence, Shiva is often worshipped in an abstract manner, as God without form, in the form of linga. This view is similar in some ways to the view of God in Semitic religions such as Islam or Judaism, which hold that God has no personal characteristics. Hindus, on the other hand, believe that God can transcend all personal characteristics yet can also have personal characteristics for the grace of the embodied human devotee. Personal characteristics
Shiva "Siva is no more a name for G-d than the Holy Spirit" ---
Except of course, that a lot of christians do think that 'Holy Spirit' is a name for G-d.
----
Indeed. See the entry for the Athanasian Creed for the historical understanding of the Trinity held by Catholic,
Eastern Orthodox, and many Protestant Christians.. It's not at all clear to me what the author means by saying the Holy Spirit is a 'facet' of God, or by saying that Christ 'developed' Christianity from Judaism.
----
my goodness. This is an exceptionally inaccurate treatment of Christianity, which makes me wonder how accurate a treatment of Shaivism it can possibly be! 'Facet'-language for the Holy Spirit is modalist, I ''think'' the author to mean. In which case it is not a correct presentation of orthodox Christian theology, but some sort of reinterpretation. And by the way history of religion folks are DEEPLY divided on the origins of religion in animism - lots of them (based on study of religion in remaining hunter/gatherer groups) like to talk about a kind of primitive monotheism. Not that I think much of anthropologists in general when they talk about religion before the invention of writing, but it's worth noting that this article asserts something that is not simply accepted by everryone. --MichaelTinkler

These last few sentences are either inaccurate (modalism applied to the Trinity - not accurate Christian theology) or gratuitous (the Buddha bit - what's it doing in a Siva article?):
:''Siva is no more a name for God than the Holy Spirit--Siva is a facet of atman just as the Spirit is a facet of the HolyTrinity. Buddha developed Buddhism from Hinduism in an analogous fashion to Christ developing Christianity from Judaism.''

Shiva is supposed to be ''anaadi'' (with no beginning) and ''ananth'' (with no end), i.e. without birth or death. Vishnu on the otherhand was born as Parasurama, Rama, Krishna. Where does Ammavaru fit in?

Lady Shiva
Lady Shiva is a fictional character created by DC Comics. Her real name is Shiva Woosan, anglicized to Sandra Woosan.
She is a martial artist who first appeared in ''Richard Dragon, Kung Fu Master''. She works as an assassin selling her skill to anyone who can afford her price.
History
Lady Shiva was among those who trained Bruce Wayne in martial arts in his youth before he became Batman. Later, in the KnightsEnd part of the KnightSaga storyline, she retrained him to become Batman by sending assassins after him.
Jason Todd, in the A Death in the Family storyline shortly before his death, suspected that Lady Shiva might be his mother, but that turned out not to be the case.
In the first ''Robin'' mini-series when Tim Drake was abroad for advanced training, Lady Shiva encountered Tim and was impressed enough with his ability that she insisted on training him herself.
She appeared in ''The Question'' where in the employ of an insane pastor, she defeated the Question in combat. However, for reasons of her own, she immediately rescued him from being murdered and arranged for extensive martial arts and philosophical instruction for him by Richard Dragon.
In ''Batman'' #534 (September 1996), she worked with Batman against Ra's Al Ghul's League of Assassins. However, later, in ''Batman'' #616 (August 2003), in the Hush storyline, Lady Shiva worked ''for'' Ra's Al Ghul, and Ra's Al Ghul's daughter Talia Al Ghul referred to Lady Shiva as perhaps the deadliest of her father's assassins.
Greatest martial artist in the DC universe
For many years, there was ongoing debate among comics fans on whether or not she is the greatest martial artist in the DC Universe. The primary other candidates are:
Batgirl (Cassandra Cain)
Batman
Green Arrow (Connor Hawke)
Batman defeated her in ''Batman'' #427 (December 1988), but not alone and only with the help of Robin (Jason Todd). Batman has stated on other occasions that he considers her to
Shiva Dhanush Shiva Dhanush was the bow of lord Shiva. The same was considered to be very heavy and powerful. The person with divine blessings and purpose could get power to lift it and use it. This bow was given by Shiva to Janaka - father of Janaki or Sita. The bow was kept as a test so that one who could string the bow would marry Sita. Lord Rama broke the bow and married Sita.
