Venus Of Tan-Tan The Venus of Tan-Tan found in Morocco. It is 6 centimeters long, gender indeterminate and headless, and has been dated between 300,000 and 500,000 BCE. It and its contemporary the Berekhat Ram figure might be the earliest representations of the human form.
Made from quartzite, it was painted with red ochre indicating a possible symbolic importance. It may be one of the earliest representations of pigmentation application found. It was discovered during an archaeological survey by Lutz Fiedler, state archaeologist of Hessen, Germany, in a river terrace deposit on the north bank of the River Draa a few kilometers south of the Moroccan town of Tan-Tan.
It is often categorized as one of the Venus figurines.

Tanning :''This page is about making leather. For the darkening of human skin, see sun tanning.''
Tanning is the process of making leather from skin. This is commonly done with the acidic compound tannin, which prevents normal decomposition and often imparts color.
Process
The process of dressing up animal skin/hide into leather consists of three stages. The first stage is the preparation for tanning. The second stage is the actual tanning and other chemical treatment. The third stage applies finishing to the surface.
In preparation for tanning, the skins (of smaller animals like goat, sheep, lamb, pig, etc) or hides (of larger animals like cow, buffalo, etc) are washed, alkali treated to remove hair and natural fat, and acidified to prepare for tanning.
The majority of leather produced today is tanned using chrome tanning material. Tanning is followed by dyeing (to give color), fatliquoring (to add fat/oil) and retanning (to fill up the fiber structure) in wet condition.
The leathers are dried and mechanically softened and prepared for finishing. Finishing is usually coating of surface with paint like mixes. Suedes, Nubucks, etc. are finished by raising the nap of the leather by rubbing with emery paper (sandpaper).
History of Tanning
In ancient history, tanning was considered a noxious trade and relegated to the outskirts of town, amongst the poor. The ancients used leather for waterskins, bags, harnesses, boats, armor, quivers, scabbards, boots, and sandals. Around 2500 BC, the Sumerians began using leather, affixed by copper studs, on chariot wheels.
Tanners would take an animal skin and soak it in water. Then they would pound and scour the skin to remove flesh and fat. Next, either they soaked the skin in urine to loosen hair fibers or they let the skin putrefy for several months, after which they dipped the skin in a salt solution. After the hair fibers were loosened, the tanners would scrape them off with a knife.
Once the hair was

TANs are being used by some online banking institutions as a form of ''single use'' passwords to authorise transactions. TANs are a second layer of security above and beyond the traditional single-password authentication.
An outline of how TANs function:
# The bank creates a set of unique TANs for the user. Typically, there are 50 TANs printed on a list, each 8 characters long, which is enough to last half a year for a normal user.
# The user picks up the list from the nearest bank branch. The user must typically idendify him/herself through presenting a passport, an ID card or similar document.
# A few days later, the user receives a 5 digit password by mail to the user's home address. The user is requested to memorise the password, destroy the notice and keep the TAN list in a safe place near the PC.
# To log on to his/her account, the user must enter user name and password. This may give access to account information but the ability to process transactions is disabled.
# To perform a transaction, the user enters the request and "signs" the transaction by entering an unused TAN. The bank verifies the TAN submitted against the list of TANs they issued to the user. If it is a match, the transaction is processes. If it is not a match, the transaction is rejected.
# The TAN has now been consumed and will not be recognized for any further transactions.
# If the TAN list is compromised, the user may cancel it by notifying the bank.
TANs are believed to provide additional security because they act as a form of two-factor authentication. If the physical document containing the TANs is stolen, it will be of little use without the password. On the other hand, if a hacker cracks the user's password, they can not process transactions without the TAN. This form of two-factor authentication assumes that it is unlikely for someone to gain illegal access to both the TAN and the user's password at the
