Mixmaster Morris

Ambient DJ and underground musician Mixmaster Morris was born in Brighton but started his DJ career in 1985 with his "Mongolian Hip Hop Show" on pirate radio in London. Morris began releasing material as Irresistible Force in 1987 and became involved with the emerging UK acid house scene, working with acts such as The Shamen, The Orb, Spiritualized, Coldcut and System 7. Morris toured with the Shamen for two years until the tragic death of bass player Will Sinott. In 1990 he made what is widely regarded as the first chillout compilation, ''Give Peace a Dance 3'' for the group Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament (CND), followed by the series ''Chillout or Die'' for Rising High. ''The Morning After'' became his first major-label mix album, followed by ''Abstract Funk Theory'' for Obsessive. As of 2003, his most recent mix is ''God Bless the Chilled'' for Return to the Source. He has produced many remixes since 1985, the most celebrated being Coldcut's "Autumn Leaves" which regularly tops polls of chillout classics. In the early 1990s he played a lot of pure ambient music as well as emerging styles of ambient electronica (see the ''ambient music'' article). His key residencies at this time were alongside the Detroit masters at Lost, Megatripolis the original festival-in-a-club, crusty capital Megadog and Tribal Gathering where he played alongside Aphex Twin. Throughout the 1990s he wrote extensively about electronic music for ''New Musical Express'', ''Mixmag'', and ''i-D Magazine''. He was resident on Kiss FM for several years, but nowadays can be heard on Solid Steel, the Ninja Tune syndicated radio show. He made his movie debut in the cult film Modulations (Caipirinha Films), but his music can be heard in a number of other films including 'Groove' and 'Hey Happy', as well as many TV shows. Over the years he has played in over 50 countries at myriad clubs and raves, particularly outdoor festivals like the Full Moon party in the Mojave Desert,Glastonbury Festival,

    Mixmaster Anonymous Remailer

Mixmaster is an anonymous remailer which sends messages in fixed-size packets and reorders them, preventing anyone watching the messages go in and out of remailers from tracing them. Mixmaster was originally written by Lance Cottrell, and is now maintained by Len Sassaman and Peter Palfrader. Current Mixmaster software can be compiled to handle Cypherpunk messages as well; they are needed as reply blocks for nym servers.

    XB-42 Mixmaster

__NOTOC__ The Douglas XB-42 Mixmaster was an experimental bomber aircraft, designed for a high top speed. The unconventional approach was to mount the two engines within the fuselage driving a pair of contra-rotating propellers mounted at the tail, leaving the wing and fuselage clean and free of aerodynamics-reducing protrusions. Two prototype aircraft were built, but the end of World War II changed priorities, and the advent of the jet engine gave an alternative way toward achieving high speed. Developed initially as a private venture, an unsolicited proposal was presented to the United States Army Air Force in May 1943. This resulted in an Air Force contract for two prototypes, the Air Force seeing an intriguing possibility of finding a bomber capable of the B-29 Superfortress' range without its size or cost. The aircraft mounted a pair of Allison V-1710-125 liquid-cooled V-12 engines behind the crew's cabin, each driving one of the twin propellors. Air intakes were in the wing leading edge. The undercarriage was tricycle, and there was a long fin under the tail to prevent the propeller from striking the ground. The pilot and co-pilot sat under twin bubble canopies, and the bombardier sat in the extreme front behind a glass nose. Defensive armament was two 0.50" machine guns in turrets in the trailing edge of the wing, which retracted into the wing when not in use. These guns could only cover the rearward direction, but with the plane's high speed it was thought unlikely that intercepting fighters would be attacking from any other angle. The first XB-42 prototype flew on May 6, 1944. Performance was excellent, being basically as described in the original proposal; as fast or faster than the De Havilland Mosquito but with twice the bombload and defensive armament. The twin bubble canopies proved a bad idea, and the aircraft suffered from some instability, vibrations and poor engine cooling - all problems that could probably have been dealt with. The
